Larry Pearen is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts Degrees, a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration from the University of Regina and has taken graduate classes from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, and the University of North Dakota. A clinician, adjudicator, and educator, Mr. Pearen was responsible for all bands at the Yorkton Regional High School. He retired on June 26, 2003 and currently directs two Community Adult Bands (concert and jazz) on Monday evenings.
His bands have traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States including a performance in the 1998 Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, California on New Years Day, one of only two non American bands invited, the other from Thailand. His bands have performed at Disneyland, and Universal Studios California, MGM Theme Park in Las Vegas, Disney World, and Universal Studios Florida. Yorkton bands under his direction have performed in four Canadian Football League Grey Cup Pre Game and Half Time Shows with performances in many nationally televised parades including the Calgary Stampede and Exhibition.
The Yorkton Regional High School Marching 100 also performed with Canadian recording artist Lawrence Gowan as the provincially televised opening act for the 1998 Kinsmen Telemiracle which raised 2.5 million dollars in 20 hours.
He has produced and co-directed four high school musicals including: Bye Bye Birdie, Grease, Oliver! and The Music Man.
Mr. Pearen is a past president of the Canadian Band Association, the Saskatchewan Band Association and past chairperson of the North American Band Directors' Coordinating Council which represents band activity at the Mid West International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago.
He has coordinated a junior band camp for eleven years involving over 180 junior high students with a staff of twenty-eight sponsored by the Saskatchewan Band Association. He is past manager and founding member of the National Youth Band of Canada Committee. Mr. Pearen is an honorary life member of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Association and a member of the National Band Association, Canadian Music Educators Association and the Canadian Band Association. Mr. Pearen was recently presented the Canadian Band Association NATIONAL BAND AWARD, the associations highest award with an honorary Life Membership for his work and leadership with bands in Canada. |
